Silent
People: Hearing the
Call of the
Dodder by Yvonne Jerrold Review by Daiga Kamerade from Latvia I have read Silent People: Hearing the Call of the Dodder, and it is amazing! I am really impressed! It is so original. The story, about these unique people living close to nature who want to protect their world, is so special. I haven't read anything like it before. It kept me on my toes all the time I was reading it. I was constantly alternating between, "I know what will happen," and, "oh, no, I don't know...". This made it so difficult to put it down. It is obvious, too, that Jerrold has done a lot of research on plants for this book. The story is also about introverts - people who do not need the hassle of modernity, the externalities, to be happy - and how such people are so often misunderstood and unappreciated by our very externalised modern world. Probably, I also liked this book so much because it brought me back to my childhood in the countryside, where my brother and I were allowed to explore the world around us, by running through fields, picking berries in a forest, bumping into a hare in a meadow, and swimming in a lake - things many children nowadays do not experience. I am grateful to the author for bringing back my happy memories! Return to Reviews page... Return to Silent People... Return to Writing... Return to Home page...
